Charged under Sedition Act

Benjamin Koh Song Huat and Nicholas Lim Yew are charged under the Sedition Act for posting racist remarks in online forums and their blogs.

Update: 9 October 2005

Koh is jailed for one month. Lim is jailed for one day and fined the maximum $5,000.

Update: 27 October 2005

Gan Huai Shi, 17, pleads guilty to two charges of making seditious and inflammatory remarks about Muslims on the Internet. His case has been adjourned till November 23.

Update: 24 November 2005

Gan is sentenced to 24 months of supervised probation. He will:
  • undergo psychological evaluation and follow-up to address the death of his brother,
  • attend counselling sessions to correct his misguided dislike of Malays,
  • post a $10,000 bond to ensure good behaviour, and
  • perform 180 hours of community service.
